Capitol Square
Virginia Capitol in Richmond
The Virginia State Capitol is a park and legislative space situated in a heavily green area. Numerous statues commemorate various aspects of Virginia and Richmond history, such as the enormous George Washington statue, the Edgar Allen Poe statue, a Civil Rights statue ("It seemed like reaching for the moon") and civil war personalities and others populating the grounds. The entrance to the Govenor's mansion is in one corner, and a Colonial bell tower is in the opposite corner with a visitor's Center. Richmond office buildings, hotels and other structures are on view just beyond the park setting.

2023 Update: Many of the statues and design of the park has been adjusted, redesigned, or objects removed. Several of the photos here are of staues no longer in the park, or, as in the case of the Poe statue, moved to a different location but still on the grounds of the park.
